Bluetooth is the whole difference. Both run DECT7, both protect at 24dB, both carry stereo listen-through and the personal sound dosimeter, and both reach up to 1,600 feet line-of-sight. The APX379 adds Bluetooth for a phone, a tablet, or a device that has to be in the same ears as the team.
Choosing a wear style+
Behind-head fits under a hard hat or a face shield and is what most crews in head protection end up on. Hard-hat mounts to the shell itself. Overhead is the default where head protection is not worn, and is usually the most comfortable of the three.

Product overview
The APX379 is the top of the Apex 3-Series: the full DECT7 team headset with Bluetooth added. That last part is usually what decides the model. A supervisor who needs to take a call, a lead who runs a tablet, or anyone who has to bring a device into the same ears as the team wants the 379. A crew member who only needs the team channel does not, and the APX377 is the same headset without it.
Everything else is the Apex platform. Full-duplex DECT7 means people talk over each other the way they do in person, hands-free, with no buttons to push. 24dB NRR protects hearing while stereo listen-through feeds the surroundings back in, so a worker hears the machine, the spotter, and the person walking up behind them without lifting a cup. Range is up to 1,600 feet line-of-sight, and battery life is up to 24 hours of talk time on a four-hour charge.
One feature is unusual enough to call out: a personal sound dosimeter monitors noise exposure and adjusts speaker volume in the headset to reduce potential hearing damage. That is a hearing-conservation control, not a comfort feature.
Three wear styles cover three kinds of job. Overhead, behind-head, and hard-hat, all with the same electronics. Headsets connect through a SON150 wireless base station for installed systems or a wireless ComHub for systems that travel, and the APX377 covers the seats that do not need Bluetooth.

Rarely. It earns its place on supervisors, leads, and anyone who has to take a call or run a device while staying on the team channel. For a crew member who only needs the team, the APX377 is the same headset without it. Most sites buy a mix.
If the crew wears hard hats, behind-head fits under them and hard-hat mounts to the shell. If head protection is not part of the job, overhead is the default and usually the most comfortable. Most sites end up ordering more than one style, because the answer differs by role.
Up to 1,600 feet line-of-sight from the base station. Line-of-sight is doing real work in that sentence — steel, concrete, and equipment between two people will reduce it, which is one of the things we work through when we configure the system.
Up to 24 hours of talk time on a four-hour charge. In practice a system charged overnight in its case is ready for a full shift, and the four-hour figure is what makes a mid-day top-up realistic when a crew runs long.
